BART VAN REYN
The young conductor Bart Van Reyn studied at the Royal Conservatories of Antwerp (Choral Conducting) and Brussels (Orchestral Conducting), and also specialised in performance practice of Early Music at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague under Jos van Veldhoven.
He attended masterclasses with famous conductors such as Paul Hillier, Harry Christophers, Frieder Bernius and Toñu Kaljuste and with high profile ensembles like The Sixteen, das Junge Vokalensemble Hannover and the Netherlands Chamber Choir.
Besides the Octopus Chamber Choir and Baroque Orchestra, he has conducted different early music ensembles as Euterpe Baroque Consort (Belgium), Vox Luminis (France) and the baroque orchestras Florilegium Musicum (Netherlands) and Aspetti Musicali (Belgium).
He is also active in contemporary music: he has conducted several works at the Steve Reich Festival in The Hague in the presence of the composer.
Bart Van Reyn works as repetiteur with the Netherlands Bach Society, The Flemish Radio Choir and the chamber orchestras Prima la Musica and Cappella Augustina Köln. He prepared programmes for Toñu Kaljuste, Andreas Spering, Yoel Levi, Philippe Herreweghe, Ottavio Dantone,…
As a countertenor he sings regularly with the Kammerchor Stuttgart and the 16 Vokalsolisten conducted by Frieder Bernius, going on tour to Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland, Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia.
In 2006 he conducted "Dido and Aeneas" at the Basel Opera House. From 2006 till 2008 he has been musical director of the period orchestra Musica Rara in Milan, touring through Italy with this period orchestra.
As an assistant-conductor he works for the opera houses of Brussels (la Monnaie), Antwerp and Ghent (Flanders Opera), Potsdam (Musikfestspiele Sanssouci) and Maastricht (Opera South). He has assisted many conductors including Andreas Spering, Jos van Veldhoven, Dirk Vermeulen, Elgar Howarth, Koen Kessels, Christoph Poppen, Attilio Cremonesi and Michael Hofstetter.
